From the corner of a metalhead “Rammstein”

They are provocative. They are shocking. They can make you sad. They can make you disgusted. They can make you angry. One thing is certain. They will not leave you indifferent. They are Rammstein. I have to confess. I have been listening to Rammstein for only 7 or 8 years.Yes, only, considering that their career lasts for 30 years. You have to be ready for them.

Rammstein was formed in 1994 in Berlinand they belong to the New German Hardness (Neue Deutsche Härte)/ Industrial Metal genre. Members of the band are: Richard Kruspe (lead guitar), Til Linderman (vocals), Paul Landers (rhythm guitar), Oliver Ridel (bass), Christoph Schneider (drums) and Christian “Flake” Lorenz (keyboards). They are one of the rarest bands whose line-up has not changed since the beginning. It was Richard Kruspe who put them together, as each of them had their own bands before Rammstein, so for a year and a half the band coexisted with the members’ previous bands. Kruspe wanted to create a unique German sound, so he worked with Riedel and Schneider and managed to convince Linderman to join them when he heard him sing. They recorded their first song for the 1994 Berlin Amateur Band Competition and won. The prize was a week in a professional recording studio. After listening to their demo, Paul Landers joined them and to complete their sound they invited Christian “Flake” Lorenz. In 1995 they recorded their first studio album “Herzleid” and the first single was “Du richts so gut”.The album did not sell well in the beginning, but they went on tour with the band Clawfinger in Warsaw, Prague and 17 concerts in Germany and increased their popularity. The performance on MTV’s Hanging out in London in March 1996was their breakthrough outside of Germany.  The making of a song goes like this: Linderman writes the lyrics and the rest of the band writes the music. They say that this process is democratic because each member votes for the final version of the song. The lyrics are in German, with a few words in English, Spanish or Italian, because, as they say,German is the best language for them to express their feelings. They often stir up the public with their songs because some of them are very provocative, some of them talk about very delicate topics of society while some criticize the community. They also have very interesting videos, little masterpieces, and they often clarify what is left unsaid by the lyrics. Whether you like them or not, you have to admit that they will not leave you indifferent.

To date, they have released eight studio albums that have sold more than 20 million copies and played more than a thousand spectacular concerts around the world. Now, in three weeks, they will start their European Stadium Tour 2024.
