Deutche Märchenstraße or German Fairy Tale Road. This is a tourist attraction that takes you to places wherefairy tales are still alive. Everything is connected to the Brothers Grimm, including the towns where they worked and lived, as well as the fairy tales they collected. The route, that wasestablished In 1975, is 600 km long, passes through more than 50 towns and villages and starts in Hanau, the birthplace of the Brothers Grimm. Let’s mention just a few of the places associated with fairy tales.
The starting point of this route is in Hanau by the statue of brothers Grim. Alsfeld is a town surrounded by forest and you can meet Little Red Riding Hood on its street. There is a beautiful Fairy Tale House museum. Bad Wildungen is home of Margarethe von Waldeck, one of the candidates for Snow White. Sababurg Castle is surrounded by forest, entwined with ivy and, you guessed it, alleged home of Sleeping Beauty. Trendelenburg Fortress has a tower where Rapunzel was imprisoned. Hameln is famous for the Pied Piper story. In the summer this fairy tail lights performed every Sunday. This route ends in the city of Bremen at the sculpture Die Stadtmusikanten or Town Musicians, which portrays the donkey, dog, cat and rooster, characters from theBrothers Grimm fairy tale.
In addition to the named places, this route has many picturesque villages that have almost preserved the medieval spirit, towns with old churches, museums, various festivals and, of course, Christmas markets. The nature is beautiful and the road often goes through forests so old that you get the impression that a medieval farmer or knight might jump in front of your car (just like in the movie The Visitors).About 10000 tourists visit the German Fairy Tale Route every year,so I would say it is worth seeing.
